Fees — clear and transparent information
On this page you will find, for information only, the fees I charge at the OPHTALIFE practice in Boulogne-Billancourt (next to Paris) for refractive surgery, cataract surgery and other procedures. Since every situation is unique, a detailed personal quote is always given to you before any procedure, following the pre-operative assessment.
How are my fees set?
I want the financial side to be discussed simply and unambiguously, from the very first assessment. Here is the framework for the fees shown on this page.
- The amounts below are given for information only and may be adjusted depending on the complexity of your situation.
- A detailed personal quote is always given to you before any procedure, in accordance with French regulations, with a cooling-off period.
- Refractive surgery is subject to freely set fees: it is not covered by the French national health insurance (Assurance Maladie).
- For covered procedures (cataract surgery, YAG laser capsulotomy), additional fees are set "with tact and moderation", as required by French rules (Sector 2: fees above the national health insurance rate).
Refractive surgery fees
Freely set fees, not reimbursed by the Assurance Maladie. Each package applies to both eyes and includes the procedure, post-operative follow-up visits and any enhancement that is medically necessary within the year.
Surface technique with no corneal flap — particularly suited to thin corneas and occupations with a risk of eye trauma.
Discover PRK →All-laser Femto-LASIK for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, with visual recovery usually within 24 hours.
Discover LASIK →A lenticule is removed through a micro-incision, with no corneal flap — an attractive option for contact-sport athletes.
Discover SMILE →A multifocal variant of LASIK that restores distance and near vision in presbyopic patients, usually after age 45.
Discover PresbyLASIK →An intraocular lens for high prescriptions or corneas unsuitable for laser surgery. A reversible technique, with no corneal reshaping.
Discover ICL lenses →Some tests in the pre-operative refractive assessment are not covered by the Assurance Maladie; their cost is specified when you book your appointment. The choice of technique is never driven by price: it is based on the full pre-operative assessment and your visual needs.
Cataract surgery
Cataract surgery is a procedure listed in the CCAM (French fee schedule) and covered by the French national health insurance (Assurance Maladie). As a Sector 2 doctor (fees above the national health insurance rate), I charge regulated additional fees; indicative amounts are shown below.
The surgical procedure is covered by the Assurance Maladie; the amount shown corresponds to the additional fees (Sector 2), which many complementary health insurance plans (mutuelles) reimburse in full or in part.
Cataract surgery →For premium lenses (multifocal or EDOF), which aim for independence from glasses, the extra cost of the lens itself is not reimbursed by the Assurance Maladie.
Premium lenses →YAG laser, IPL and consultations
A procedure listed in the CCAM (code BFPP001) and reimbursed by the Assurance Maladie — Social Security base rate: €83.60 per eye, with possible extra fees (Sector 2) stated on the quote.
Secondary cataract →A treatment not reimbursed by the Assurance Maladie. The package price, which depends on the protocol tailored to your situation (number of sessions), is specified during your dry eye assessment at the practice.
IPL treatment →Consultations are reimbursed under the national health insurance agreement (Sector 2). However, some tests in the pre-operative refractive assessment are not covered by the Assurance Maladie.

The level of coverage depends on the type of procedure. Here is how to find your way — and how to contact your complementary health insurer.
- Refractive surgery (LASIK, SMILE, PRK, PresbyLASIK, ICL/IPCL): not covered by the Assurance Maladie. However, many mutuelles offer an annual "refractive surgery" allowance or a "non-reimbursed procedures" allowance.
- Cataract surgery and YAG laser capsulotomy: covered by the Assurance Maladie; Sector 2 additional fees are often covered, in full or in part, by complementary health insurance.
- IPL treatment and some tests in the refractive assessment: not covered.
How do I request coverage from my mutuelle?
- Get your detailed personal quote — I always give it to you after the pre-operative assessment, before any procedure.
- Send it to your complementary health insurer (online member area, email or post), asking for the amount of your "refractive surgery" allowance or coverage of extra fees.
- Wait for your mutuelle's written reply stating the amount reimbursed, before confirming the surgery date if this is a deciding factor for you.
- After the procedure, you receive a paid invoice to claim your reimbursement.
Paying in installments?
Payment in installments may be offered — ask about it during your consultation: we will review together the options that suit your situation.
