My main specialty

Refractive Surgery

Refractive surgery is the specialty closest to my heart. My goal: to free you from glasses and contact lenses by choosing, together with you, the technique best suited to your eye, your prescription and your lifestyle. I offer both main families: laser corneal surgery (LASIK, SMILE, PRK, PresbyLASIK) and intraocular surgery with a phakic lens (ICL & IPCL). Every indication is established after a comprehensive assessment — the prerequisite for a safe and lasting result. I see patients from Paris and the western Paris suburbs at Cabinet OPHTALIFE in Boulogne-Billancourt.

Refractive errors

Which conditions can I correct?

I correct all refractive errors (ametropias). Each one can be combined with the others and requires an individualized approach.

Myopia
Blurry distance vision
The eye is too long: images are focused in front of the retina. Correction possible up to −10 D with laser, and up to −30 D with an ICL phakic lens.
Hyperopia
Tiring near vision
The eye is too short: images are focused behind the retina. Laser corrects up to +5 D, the ICL up to +15 D.
Astigmatism
Distorted images
The cornea is not spherical but toric (elliptical in shape). Often associated with myopia or hyperopia. Corrected by all laser techniques and by the toric ICL.
Presbyopia
Difficulty reading
Loss of accommodation after age 45. Treated with laser (PresbyLASIK or monovision) or lens surgery with an EDOF / multifocal intraocular lens.
Part 1 · Corneal surgery

Laser surgery

The laser acts directly on the cornea to change its curvature and correct the refractive error. Four main techniques, chosen according to your unique corneal profile and your age.

04
Part 2 · Intraocular surgery

ICL / IPCL phakic lens

When laser is not the best option — cornea too thin, prescription too high, stabilized keratoconus — or for patients who want a reversible technique, I offer a phakic lens (ICL or IPCL). I place an ultra-soft intraocular lens between the iris and the natural lens, without touching the cornea.

The lens can correct myopia up to −30 D and hyperopia up to +15 D, with toric versions for astigmatism. It is a fully reversible technique: if needed, the lens can be removed at any time without harming the eye.

Am I a candidate
for refractive surgery?

A few questions for an initial orientation. This test does not replace a medical consultation.

1 / 4 — How old are you?

Your journey

From assessment to visual freedom

1

Assessment consultation

I carry out a comprehensive pre-operative assessment: precise measurement of your prescription, corneal mapping (Anterion), pachymetry and anterior segment examination. Together, we choose the optimal technique.

2

Preparation

Stop wearing contact lenses (1 week for soft lenses, 3 weeks for rigid lenses). Prescription of preparatory eye drops. You receive the cost estimate and a detailed informed consent form.

3

Procedure

Outpatient surgery under anesthetic eye drops (sedation possible for ICL). Duration: about 15 min for both eyes with laser, 20 min per eye for ICL. I stay with you and explain every step.

4

Follow-up & results

Check-ups at day 1, day 7 and 1 month. Anti-inflammatory eye drops depending on the technique. I remain reachable by phone between appointments. The result stabilizes within a few weeks.

Choosing the right technique

Comparison of techniques

Each technique has its indications and limitations. Here is a concise comparison to guide you — the final decision is made at your personalized assessment.

LASIK SMILE PRK Phakic lens (ICL/IPCL)
Corneal procedure Flap + reshaping Lenticule extraction Surface (no flap) None
Visual recovery 24 h 24-48 h 5-7 days 24-48 h

Astigmatism Yes Yes Possible Yes
Thin cornea Contraindicated Contraindicated Possible Ideal
Contact sports After 4 weeks After 2 weeks After 2 weeks After 3-4 weeks
Reversible No No No Yes

¹ Corrections beyond −18 D (myopia) or +10 D (hyperopia) require the IPCL (Care Group). The EVO Visian ICL (STAAR) covers myopia up to −18 D and hyperopia up to +10 D.

Your questions

FAQ — Refractive surgery

No. The eye is numbed with simple eye drops: you feel nothing during the procedure. In the hours following LASIK or SMILE, stinging and sensitivity to light may occur but are temporary. After PRK, more noticeable discomfort for 2 to 3 days is usual, relieved by simple painkillers and a bandage contact lens.
Yes, corneal reshaping is permanent: the cornea keeps its new shape for life. Presbyopia (around age 45) and a possible cataract (around age 60-70) are natural changes, unrelated to refractive surgery. In about 1% of cases, a laser enhancement may be offered to fine-tune the result — it remains possible if corneal thickness allows.
Refractive surgery is not covered by the French national health insurance (Assurance Maladie). However, many complementary health insurance plans (mutuelles) offer a partial allowance — check with yours. Fees vary with the technique and the degree of correction; a detailed cost estimate is given to you at the assessment.
LASIK: screens from day 1-2, light exercise from day 7, contact sports and swimming after 4 weeks. SMILE: screens from day 1-2, contact sports from 1 to 2 weeks. PRK: screens between day 5 and day 10, light exercise from day 15, contact sports after 1 month. ICL: quick return to activities after day 1, unrestricted sports after 1 month.
Yes, I routinely perform simultaneous bilateral surgery — for LASIK, SMILE and PRK as well as for phakic lenses. This avoids a period of discomfort caused by the imbalance between the two eyes and shortens the total time off. For ICL, same-day bilateral surgery is technically more demanding but offers greater comfort for the patient.
The choice depends on several criteria: the type and amount of your prescription, the thickness and regularity of your cornea, the quality of your tear film, your age, lifestyle and sporting activities. Only a comprehensive pre-operative assessment allows me to determine the technique that suits you. My approach: to offer you the technique best suited to your profile — not necessarily the most fashionable, nor the simplest.
